2009 Malaysian MotoGP – qualifying
24-10-09 by Mark M
Valentino Rossi is looking to take the 2009 MotoGP world championship with style. The Yamaha factory rider made certain of his intent for the race by qualifying in pole position with a margin of 0.569s back to chief rival and teammate Jorge Lorenzo. Any ideas of cruising to a fourth place (Rossi only needs to finish fourth or higher to win the championsip) have been well and truly quashed.
Dani Pedrosa qualified in third 0.736s down on Rossi and again will battle for the front, no doubt aided by a typical blistering start.
Australian GP winner Casey Stoner was disappointed with 4th and will look to make amends come race day. A change of tyres and vibration issues were not what the Australian wanted however, he is more than satisfied with his race pace.
Loris Capirossi showed that there’s life left in the 2009 Suzuki MotoGP bike yet and will start next to Stoner.
Toni Elías (San Carlo Honda Gresini), Nicky Hayden (Ducati Marlboro), Randy de Puniet (LCR Honda), Colin Edwards (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) and Alex de Angelis (San Carlo Honda Gresini) round out the top ten.
